About Heartwood Recovery

Heartwood Recovery is determined to help end the suffering of men who struggle with alcoholism and/or drug addiction.

Vision:

Our goal is to help men achieve life-long recovery through total abstinence. On our end, we provide the education and support necessary to understand the problem and to implement the solution. All that is required of our clients is a willingness to try something new and different.

We realize that each client is unique, and we take into account life circumstances and individual issues while they are in our care. It is beneficial to explore root causes, but at the end of the day our main focus is on the solution. We believe that practical application is where many men fall short, so we focus on the idea of implementation and sustainability.

Frank Schmitt Addiction Treatment Austin
Founder and CEO

Frank Schmitt

Frank Schmitt was born in Dallas, TX, grew up in Scottsdale, AZ, and graduated from Arizona State University in 2008.  As an addict himself, he entered treatment for the first time in 2013 due to a family intervention.  Multiple attempts at sobriety were made over the course of a few years, until he entered his final treatment center in July of 2016.  Through trial and error over the years, he finally came to a place of complete willingness and understood that he could not stay sober on his own terms.  Taking every suggestion given was ultimately what made the difference.

Upon getting and staying sober, the trajectory of his life shifted to helping others find the same solution.  In 2017 Frank founded Heartwood Recovery, LLC which owns and operates 3 men’s sober living homes in Austin, TX.  To date, they have seen 250+ men come through the doors seeking long term recovery.  Seeing the growing need for solid treatment, Frank founded Heartwood Recovery Center (HRC) for men in 2022.  HRC is a 16-bed men’s residential treatment center located in South Austin.

Frank’s mission is simple; to help men who are struggling with the diseases of alcoholism and/or drug addiction find a solution.  He is passionate about his work and helping his clients, and is equally as passionate about helping their families and loved ones find peace and understanding through the process.

Jeremy Sikes Addiction Treatment Rehab
Director of Recovery Services

Jeremy Sikes

Jeremy Sikes was born in El Paso, TX, and was raised in Scottsdale, AZ. At a young age, he was exposed to alcoholism with various family members. This way of life was appealing to him and he picked up drinking and smoking as a very young teenager.

After multiple failed attempts to control his drinking, Jeremy fell further into alcoholism and eventually progressed to hard drugs. After almost being defeated multiple times in a 15 year span, Jeremy took a leap of faith and moved to a sober living in Austin, TX.

He immersed himself in a 12-step program and finally found the freedom he had been looking for. At a year sober, Jeremy decided to follow his new found passion and started working in the recovery industry as a Recovery Advocate.

He eventually found himself in a position where he was able to help men find serenity through working the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. As our Director of Recovery Services, Jeremy oversees the day-to-day operations of our program and helps men on their journey on a daily basis.

Kyle Buzick Addiction Treatment
Director of Sober Living Services

Kyle Buzick

Kyle Buzick was born and raised in Reno, NV. He describes himself as a “third generation” addict so he got the ball rolling pretty quick. He spent 13 years in active addiction before he made the decision to check himself into treatment in March of 2021.

Trying to follow the example his mother set, he does everything he can to make his first treatment his last treatment. He had come to a place of complete desperation and willingness to change his life for the better.

Kyle came to Heartwood Sober Living in May of 2021 and hit the ground running. He took all suggestions and always tries to do the next right thing. He has the qualities of a leader so he always tries to lead by example.

An active member of the sober community here in Austin, Kyle has a passion for helping people overcome their own addictions and showing newcomers that it is possible to have fun in sobriety.
Kyle oversees the day-to-day operations of our sober living program.  He builds personal relationships with all of our clients and their families.  He is dedicated to helping our clients implement the principles they have learned into their daily lives.
